Whangarei Hotel Room

So, Whangarei this week, very humid with the rain and the heat... and I'm staying in THE most retro hotel room. It looks like this (forgive my slobbishness, crap everywhere).

So, check out those chairs.... like something out of a retirement village. TV is falling of the wall... and that enormous thing hulking in the top left corner is in fact the "air conditioner" which roars like a monster in the night.

Mmm, check out the "mock colonial" turned wooden lamp bases, mounted into the fixed bedside tables, and that tres tasteful upholstery. Nothing says "class" and "style" like a fabric frieze bordered with yellowish-stained wood.

Do you like that little carpeted box thing that is covered with my crap? How about the minibar thing. You can see the instant coffee et al in the dinky little plastic stand. Oh! And the frieze again.

And darlings... here is the piece de resistance: the bedside table, hi-tech "console" from which all the lights in the whole room can be controlled. There is also and air-con button, and one for the TV.

Oh yeah. Technological Innovation in MY hotel room, right now.
