Wednesday List

This one is not really a list, but rather a list of sites that I've been in love... I've been looking at LOTS of pictures lately. Mmm, pictures pretty, I like!

In Korea, Yeondoo Jung is making photographs that recreate children's drawings. They are very, very pretty, deliciously surreal and there's something about the girly ones especially that remind me of being a little girl and merely aspiring to be the Superstar Princess I now am. My favourites are "I want to be a singer" which is this one:wonderland_07and "Sleeping Beauty", which is this one:wonderland_17How badly do I want that bed... so lurid, so satin. You really would feel like a princess. Yay, PRINCESS! The other photographs in this collection are just super fab too. Please to explore in your own time, thank you.

From one extreme to the other, Yeondoo Jung's uber slick and constructed images to the amazing found images at Square America. The site describes itself as "a gallery of vintage snapshots & vernacular photography"... I adore how disjointed these images appear and the kind of disorientation that comes with looking at and thinking about found photography. That gap being, I guess, between knowing and understanding the origins and meanings that is generally behind vernacular photography and the meanings that these photographs take on when isolated from that context.

*Deep breath*. And now a taster, images from two different collections...

This one below is from 'Defaced', described as [a] show of photos of people whose faces have been ripped, cut out, or otherwise obscured

I don't know what the goofy white guy is doing, but I kind of enjoy the way the locals are humouring the idiot. What a dork.

I feel I should write something here to finish off this post. So... um... what about you, fabulous reader? Suggestions for sites of photography fabulosity?
