I made a tutu!

Late at night. Foolish. I was going to have an early night.

In actual fact, I rather less made a tutu and more remade a tutu - unpicked my previously made black one in an effort to improve it's construction, and as a mock up for my Brutal Pageant uniform.

{This image has disappeared. Oh Noes!}

Now I know what I must do in order to make the derby tutu. Do you care? The first layer is 10cm long, I have three layers of fine mesh. Second layers is 20cm long, also three layers of the same mesh. Third layers is about 25cm long, folded over to make three layers, and is a stiffer bridal tulle (but still quite soft). The top layer is about 30cm long and also in the bridal tulle. All of the fabric was just over 200cm wide. The whole thing is sewn on a very thick piece of black elastic, and kind of just slapped together with a zigzag stitch. I pinned and sewed each layer as I went along, the fine mesh on the inside of the waist band and the stiffer tulle on the outside. I didn't ruffle everything before I sewed it because I am super lazy, rather I pinned each end, estimated the mid point, and then the mid point between the next lot of pins and so on. Does that make sense? After I had sewed all the tulle I sewed the ends of the elastic together and then pranced around the house, feeling kind of ridiculous but also quite awesome.

I'd like to wear my cake fascinator with the tutu. I plan to this weekend at the Brutal Pageant tea party.
Before I try and bout in (as yet unmade) red and pink Brutal Pageant tulle confection, I might try skating in this mock up one because I'm worried it might go horribly wrong on the night. You know, if I get wedged in between two blockers or the whole thing is torn off me dramatically in a single gesture and I'm left skating in my printed panties. Or if I were disqualified for interfering with the other skaters with my confection.

Also, ten points if you guess what sculpture I am attempting to replicate in my pose (Bex, Bryna - this one is for YOU).
