I've knitted my first ever garment!!! (ie not a pair of socks, or a hat, or a pair of handwarmer or a scarf)
It's modular - knitted from a bunch of swatches - and knitted from this amazing "paper yarn" that I picked up in Auckland. Paper yarn is 100% viscose and doesn't fray so technically you can do all sorts of crazy things like cut it and sew it together. Also, if you leave loops it makes all these interesting ribbon bits.
The swatches are knitted out of all sorts of different stitches; lace and stocking stitch and plain knit and moss stitch and brick stitch and rib. There's about 25 swatches sewn together in a square and then folded and sewn together to make loops for sleeves. And I've finally found a use for this amazing mother of pearl buckle that my father gave me years ago - it used to belong to my grandmother and he remembers that it was the buckle on a cellophane knitted belt she used to own. I think it's possibly from the 1950s, maybe earlier? Anyway, it's gorgeous and I've never wanted to waste sewing it on the wrong thing - I love that I've made something and that it's PERFECT on it.
And I think I'm going to wear it tonight to Bryna's Patrick Swayze Memorial Movie Marathon. Huzzah!
