Wednesday List: five best things to do on a broke-ass lunch break

Dudes, I am saving and I am poor. Here are some things that I do of a lunch time when I'm attempting not to visit shops or buy heaps of expensive food.

1. Make exotic toasted sandwiches with anything available. Chocolate and banana is always pretty good, as is garlicky cheese and salami.

Katherine's toasted sandwiches of awesome nastiness.
2. Take $4 to a cafe, drink a coffee and read a book. An hour of hiding from office people and suspending disbelief is like HEAVEN. I then go back to the office and eat a sandwich while I'm working.

3. Jump on my bike and go for a ride in the sun. The Waterfront is always lovely, and if I have a few dollars I swing by the gelato place. Apple gelato is awesome.

4. Failing that, I like to take a lovely long walk and listen to an audiobook, them maybe sit on a park bench and close my eyes and feel the sunshine soaking in. Vitamin D rules.

5. Write a blog entry or catch up on my reader. If you do this, I strongly recommend you make it clear that you're on a break though. Haven't found an awesome way just yet, maybe a flashing headband?

Any more suggestions for my broke-ass self?

  1. 1. Um, you could knit? Sometimes I knit. This is probably more due to the fact I have to make a crapload of teacosies before my next fair though. You could find a sunny spot outside?

    2. Have you seen the clock that opens up, upstairs in the old bank arcade building? You could mission it over there one lunch hour, just for a looksee. It's pretty cool.

  2. Knitting is perfect, and I can't believe it didn't make my list! I used to spend every lunch time knitting socks... but that was when I was only using bamboo needles. One of the needles disappeared and now I only have metal ones and they slide out of the stitches.

I should splash out and buy new bamboo needles I think.
