Wednesday List: Uniquely and Peculiarly Satisfying

Some things are good. Today I am lacking in words to expand this further.

This never bores me

  • Peeling hard boiled eggs. I don’t like hard boiled eggs especially, and I don’t like it when people put them in salads (gross! just stop it already!). However, there is something uniquely satisfying about peeling back the shell, first in small bits and then in larger ones, and revealing the smooth soft/firm whiteness underneath. Lovely. It looks like the kind of smooth that it is Right to rub over your lips.
  • Wearing a poncho. In theory I hate ponchos because they are ugly. However, when wearing a possum-merino poncho/wrap type-thing recently, not only did I feel awesomely warm, I also felt a deep-rooted inner happiness. Because it’s impossible to be unhappy in a poncho!
  • Reading on my bed, with tea, when my room is freshly clean and tidied. Bonus points: net curtains, wide open sash windows, sunshine and a breeze to make the curtains blow in and out.
  • Finishing an annoying or silly book. Most people, I am told, choose to stop reading when they’ve decided that a book sucks. However, I find that that the feeling of SATISFACTION is greatest if the book is Not Allowed to Win, if I haven’t been beaten into submission by the inane drivel, if the historical inexactitudes and poor characterisation haven’t horrified me into acquiescence. Kiss it, Book, for I have Won.
  • Perfectly replicating something your mother or grandmother made really, really well. Such a feeling of accomplishment and grown-up-ness! Quick, call your mother and tell her! She’ll be super impressed.
  • Hypothesising a dinner, thinking about it all the way home, and finding it’s as delicious as you had hoped.

Lovelies: do you have something you find uniquely or peculiarly satisfying?
