Books that I have churned through this summer break

  • The Little Women, Katherine Weber
  • Mortal Love: a novel, Elizabeth Hand (don't bother)
  • Snow flower and the secret fan: a novel, Lisa See
  • Fierce People, Dirk Wittenborn (fun)
  • Don't Make a Scene, Valerie Block (meh, meh, meh and depressing when you've just broken up with someone)
  • She Flew the Coop: a novel concerning life, death, sex and food in Limoges, Louisiana, Michael Lee West (which I like muchly and which has an index to all the recipes too - which I whole heartedly endorse)
  • Halide's gift: a novel, Frances Kazan (blah to the blah blah)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K Rowling (in about 24 hours and courtesy of my little brother)
  • And at the moment: The Pursuit of Love, Nancy Mitford.

Books to come:

  • The completion of what is becoming a constant presence in my life:  The Prime of Life, Simone de Beauvoir
  • More Mitford novels (I have a collection)
  • Completion of Katherine Mansfield's Selected Letters
  • The Name of the Rose, Umberto Eco (for the second time)
  • Kristin Lavransdatter, Sigrid Undset
  • The Girl with the Cardboard Port, Judith L. McNeil (lent to me by Michelle; I'm giving it three chapters to prove itself. I think it's one of those "tough woman in unlikely third world country situation" novels.
