In the course of my work, I often get to deal with people who have quite a different world view from me in that they are entirely details focus where as I'm - ah - not so details focus. Attention to detail really isn't my strongest trait, truth be told.
Recently, I received a piece of work with edits that were so pedantic and nit-picky that I wanted to scream, throw my toys and demand that someone else do it for me.
However, instead of having a massive brain explosion at my desk, I wrote the person in question a thank you note that I had no intention of send, but tried not to put anything back-handed or negative in it:
Thanks so much for the hard work that you put into this editing. I'm really impressed by how seriously you take every aspect of your job, and appreciate that you've taken that attitude to this task that I've asked you to do.While I may have ground my teeth while writing, I actually felt kind of felt better. A little like Pollyanna - but still, it was probably more effective than having an enormous work place tanty.
