Thx

Have you seen this website called THXTHXTHX? Lovely Megan pointed me in it's general direction. And dudes, I felt INSPIRED to write some thank you notes of my own. The first one I wrote was to the amazing baked potato I ate on Friday night (it was a seriously fine potato).

They're actually really hard to write! No really! Go away and try it. This is one I did today:

How do you feel about this, 60s woman with crazy heavy eyeliner? Feel good?

No? Bugger.

Today, Wednesday, Bullet Points

Yo yo yo! What the fuck is up, y'all? Nothing much is up here. Today is pay day so Unicorn is all like "DAMN STRAIGHT BITCHES". He does need filling in though, so don't look just yet because you'll be v. disappointed.

I am in a good mood, but I do wish that I was frolicking in the sun and perhaps sipping chilled cider and reading my Agatha Christie biography instead of being a productive member of society. Life's so hard *woe*.

♥ This morning, I bought another Keep Cup for no good reason. It's a large one which is good, and is some kind of reason I guess as my other one is small. But I don't really drink large coffees. Mostly I bought it because I liked the colour. Drat you whimsical nature.

♥ I just want to say that since quitting Facebook I've made more contact with people that I actually want to talk to. Quitting Facebook rules.

♥ Webstock Mini tonight! I think it looks as though it might be a good time. I hope there is cider for me to drink.

♥ Social Media Club Wellington is hosting a "Social Media and the Media" talk next Monday. I'm going! It could be interesting. It's at Betty's where I previously drank this weird creamy warm cocktail thing and became quite drunk. Also there were lots of suits there that night and I remember wondering why on earth my little brother had recommended that I go there.

♥ The lovely Megan of Craft is the New Black is proposing a meetup of Wellington blogger feministy (rhymes with yeasty) types. I'm very excited about the prospect of this.

♥ I had this dream last night about getting tattoos on the palms of my hands. In purple sparkle paint. I woke up incredibly relieved that it was a dream because OMG so tacky. Also, tattoos on the palms of the hands? Is this even possible?

♥ I'm super keen on yoga this week. I say "this week" advisedly, because my enthusiasm has a horrible habit of suddenly waning and I don't want to jinx myself too much. This morning I managed to convince myself that my stomach muscles had become TAUT after a week's worth of commitment. Instant toning!

♥ I wanted to clarify my Monday post - I don't normally bitch about flatmates here so I think my point might have dissolved a little. I'm so so so not a "Battle of the Sexes" person. Mostly I thought it was hilair that I'd washed James' spores down the sink. Most people don't get to say this particular phrase, and once I'd got over the anxiety I'd created for myself I must say I rather enjoyed the faux pas-ness of the situation. I am like Lizzie, who famously enjoys other people's faux pas. And I like to share.

So, in conclusion, I don't think that his actions really characterise guys' attitudes and my actions characterise girls' - it was just A Thing That Happened. Consider this blog a "Battle of the Sexes" free zone!

But thanks for the spore anger, y'all. I found it very insporing.

♥ I ate the best damn baguette sandwich just then with camembert and salami and cos. And now I shall eat a banana. Things are pretty good right now.

Sporegate 2010: In which Ginger commits a spore-based faux pas

I can't see a hairy high top here. It's possible they're actually called "Ink Cap".
I live with three other people - the Boy (Shannon),  a woman named Jo and a man named James. Every one I live with is super cool, so I'm pretty lucky in that regard. James is especially eccentric, spends about 90% of his non-working  week at his girlfriend's house or at his studio, and when at the flat is usually gardening, brewing something bizarre, cooking something he's foraged for, or practicing charcuterie.

Anyways, I haven't seen James really since last Sunday when he came back from a trip down South with his family. He rushed into the house while Jo, Shannon and I were eating dinner and he was very excited because he'd found an edible mushroom in Frank Kitts Park that was called a hairy high top (or something like that. Not sure of the name now). It was a big mushroom, but I was a bit doubtful about it's edible nature which wasn't a big issue as right then I needed to go to bed in a huff because of a pre dinner mop-based bickering/snapping session I'd had with Shannon. I had no interest in hairy high tops when my mop-putting-away abilities had recently had such aspersions cast upon them.

James and hairy high tops have been notably absent for the last few days and I have been in a rather intolerant, snippy sort of mood for the last couple of weeks, so this morning when I saw that James had been painting and using one of my beautiful Crown Lynn plates as a dish to mix his paints on, I huffily rinsed it off and put it in the dishwasher. I really had no intention of broaching the subject with him because 1. I am terrible at any kind of communication/confrontation in this regard, and 2. I figured he'd just vagued out, forgotten that he'd even started mixing it, and that it would sit on the deck for the next few days until somebody else moved it anyway.

OH NO I WAS SO WRONG. It turns out that this dish was not just covered in drying out black acrylics or ink! In actual fact it was hairy high top spores that James is using to make some kind of art type thing! We had a spectacular passive-aggressive off in the kitchen, where I told him NOT to use my plates to mix his art supplies on, he told me he had no idea what Crown Lynn plates even looked like, and that the material I'd biffed without a second thought was his spores. After my self righteousness had worn off I felt terrible knowing that I'd washed his spores down the drain. And then annoyed that I felt so bad. But: Can you believe that I could be so heartless? I need to apologise to him. But he's left the house in a huff and I'm not sure when I'll see him again. And then I'm like - "ugh but my plates are so precious to me!" But then I think - "oh but people are more important than things" and "I should try and be more tolerant/communicative".

I told Shannon all this on the way to the bottle shop and he laughed on and off the whole time we were shopping for beer and all the way home. For I know he could be chuckling away in his bedroom as we speak.
